Our mission is to produce natural artisan sausages, designed by the customer and created by us. We are Owen and Tanya, a finance graduate and a dancer that stumbled into farming.
Having spent a year in Australia working on free range pig farms, we realised that this was the life we wanted to pursue. We arrived back in Carmarthenshire, found our smallholding and have never looked back.
The business name ‘Myrddin Heritage’ comes from our local town Carmarthen which, as legend recalls, was the home of Merlin/Myrddin and also our school Ysgol Bro Myrddin.
The word ‘Heritage’ for us is all the qualities and traditions of what we are producing, which is hand making our products at our home premises using natural ingredients.
Our journey began in 2013, when Tanya bought two pigs for my 23rd birthday! A slightly random birthday present, you may think, but I had mentioned wanting to rear pigs a few months prior to my birthday, and so Tanya surprised me with this amazing gift! Little did we know that this gift would change out lives completely…
A couple of years later, in 2015, we decided that office jobs definitely weren’t for us, and that we wanted to pursue a career in pig farming. Neither of us came from farming backgrounds or had any knowledge of free range farming, so we jetted off to Australia (as you do!) to gain experience on large scale pig farms down under!
During our time in Australia, we worked on five different farms, met some amazing families who taught us so much about free range farming, and how to build a successful business, and of course, quite a lot about pigs!
We returned home to Wales in 2017 armed with a plan and a passion to turn our dream into a reality. There was no turning back now. Over two years ago, this was all but an idea, and today we’re making it happen.
