TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT DAIONI ORGANIC’S HISTORY
It all started from humble beginnings back in 19
45, when my parents moved to the 120 acre farm, Ffosyficer in Pembrokeshire. They started rearing dairy cows in 1946, and continued to run the family farm for the next 35 years. In 1970, I returned home and since then, have expanded our land to well over 3,000 acres of fertile pasture. This provides all of the home-grown grass and grain necessary to feed our Daioni cows. In 1999, my eldest son, Tom, returned to the family farm and we made the decision to commence organic conversion, and three years later, we established Daioni Organic with the aim of producing and distributing fresh organic milk direct to consumers, through the acquisition a local milk round. In 2003, we developed our flavoured milk drinks, which quickly became a firm favourite throughout schools across Wales, and since then the business has gone from strength the strength, developing markets in China and beyond.
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO ESTABLISH DAIONI ORGANIC?
Over the years, I have become increasingly concerned about the effect that intensive agricultural practices have on human health, the envi
ronment and the well-being of our livestock. In 1999, we converted our farm to wholly organic production and that soon led to the creation of Daioni Organic, where we were responsible for every aspect of rearing our cows, producing and distributing our high-quality, delicious produce. I’ve been a dairy farmer for over 40 years and am passionate about the benefits, not only to health but also to the taste, of organic produce.
