Halen Môn Sea Salt
WHERE DID THE IDEA BEHIND HALEN MÔN COME FROM?In 1997, we left a saucepan of seawater to boil on the Aga in our family kitchen and as the salt crystals started to form, we knew we’d struck culinary gold. Two years later, we started supplying Halen Môn Sea Salt to Swains, our local butchers in Menai Bridge on the Isle of Anglesey. Today, our sea salt is enjoyed around the world by chefs, food lovers and even Barack Obama. It has been served at the London 2012 Olympics, political summits and royal weddings and is a vital ingredient in an array of other brands’ produce, including NomNom chocolate and Piper’s Crisps. Our sea salt can also be found in more than 22 countries across the globe as well as on the tables of some of the world’s top restaurants such as The Fat Duck.
WHAT ARE HALEN MÔN’S KEY VALUES?To this very day, Halen Môn remains a family-run company and we continue to be all about provenance, product and people. We are very particular about where we make our sea salt, how we make it and whom we get to harvest it. We believe that this is the best sea salt money can buy. And we’ve even been awarded Protected Designation of Origin status which puts our sea salt up there with the likes of Champagne and Parma Ham. We think people who appreciate good food appreciate good sea salt to season it with, and that’s what makes Halen Môn a vital ingredient in any food lover’s kitchen.
WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT?There are so many reasons as to why we are unique, from our production to our values. We use only pure Anglesey seawater to make our salt. We don’t buy in or add in salt from anywhere else, it’s not something we’re going to do. Not now, not ever. We hand harvest every single crystal and then hand wash the salt, no exceptions. We also use ethical and fair-trade suppliers wherever possible to ensure the highest standards. We are also passionate about supporting our nearby businesses and companies, so our ‘local business preferred’ policy means we will pay up to a 10% premium to use a local supplier. Being part of this bustling community, we are also involved in numerous community initiatives and do our bit helping to run them – from farmers' markets to food clusters and community groups. Since Halen Môn operates in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we do our best to remain as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. From investing in solar panels for our energy to paying extra to buy packaging from a sustainable source where at all possible, we are continually looking at ways to remain environmentally friendly. And of course, Halen Môn is the first Welsh PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), which means that under the EU’s protected food name scheme, no other company can ‘pass off’ their product under the Halen Môn name. We have always been proud of where our sea salt comes from and this accolade legally recognises Halen Môn as having unique qualities due to our geographical location as well as the way we make it.

Halen Môn Sea Salt
“Halen Môn has become a Welsh sensation all over the world, and, like many a celeb chef, we use it in all sorts of our Discover Delicious recipes. But we don’t just recommend trying the sea salt – be sure to tuck into their other tasty treats too!”
Halen Môn sea salt is sourced from the exceptionally clean waters surrounding the island of Anglesey. We’ve come a long way since the first batch was born atop our Aga in 1997, and Halen Môn is now sold and served in some of the most famous restaurants and food emporiums around the world.
"WE FILLED A SAUCEPAN WITH ANGLESEY SEAWATER AND WATCHED IT BUBBLE AWAY ON OUR AGA. HOURS LATER, HALEN MôN WAS BORN."
