Hensol Castle Distillery is South Wales’ only full scale gin distillery and bottling plant that also offers visitor experiences and a gin school. Located in the cellars of the historic, Grade 1 listed Hensol Castle, discover an experience like no other at a site that’s steeped in heritage and fascinating history. Visitors to the gin distillery will enjoy a truly unique experience, learning all about the history of the Castle, the origins of gin, the wonderful world of botanicals and the distillery itself, whereas gin school visitors will also have the opportunity to distil their very own gin to take home with them.
In addition to tours and gin making experiences, Hensol Castle Distillery also produces its own range of spirits inspired by the history of the site. Their range of spirits, which includes gins, vodka and much more, truly reflect the brand’s values in that they are created with fun, passion and integrity – an integral part of what the distillery is all about.
The fascinating balance of old and new, Hensol’s vast history and heritage combined with a state of the art gin distillery provides a truly distinctive visitor experience and one that’s not to be missed.
Our Story
Hensol Castle Distillery is a family business with traditional family values. A business where colleagues, customers and visitors come first.
HCD as it is also known is wholly owned by the Leeke family who have built a business portfolio that includes the long-established Leekes Retail group, the success Vale Resort and Hensol Castle, a grade 1 listed 17th-century castle that just so happens to have large empty cellars. These cellars now house Hensol Castle Distillery and its contract bottling plant as well as a top-class visitor attraction and gin school. They are extremely proud of the spirits and liqueurs they produce with their gins already receiving plaudits and awards and their market-defining Trulo range of reduced-calorie liqueurs seemingly taking the market by storm.
In 1896, the current managing directors great grandfather started a small ironmongery business that quickly grew, and they like to think that the same guiding principles of hard work, honesty, respect and integrity that drove James Henry Leeke are the same values that drive them today.
