Based in the picturesque village of Penygroes, surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Snowdonia countryside, Maggie’s An African Twist To Your Everyday Dish operates from the village pub, The Red Lion. An area steeped in rich heritage and culture, Maggie’s An African Twist To Your Everyday Dish roots stem deep from African soil and have been passed down through generations of highly skilled and gifted culinary masters – or cooks as they called themselves!
Maggie is passionate about food and creating delicious and memorable recipes, and her influences flow from her mother and Nain (grandmother in Welsh), who each shared a passion for the flavours and great tastes of a range of different cuisines, including West Indian, Caribbean, Indian and Mediterranean, to name but a few. Maggie’s qualifications, like her mother’s before her, stem not only from her natural talent and passion for food and cooking, but are also informed by her time studying at College under the guidance of experienced chefs.
In addition to her dedication for producing the highest quality, authentic homemade produce, Maggie is also committed to the support of local producers, using many local ingredients in her products, bringing a unique Welsh influence to her exotic sauces and spice mixes. Our Story
In order to escape the civil war that was occurring in their country, a young couple find themselves in Britain, where they eventually give birth to their first baby girl. Although Displaced, they remember their roots and give their precious baby girl a native name, which translated means ‘Queen of the Land’.
Many years later this Queen also finds herself away from the familiar place that she was raised in and in an attempt to recreate some of the familiar tastes that she was brought up with, she sits back and imagines…then experiments with different flavours and textures, and from time to time, hits an absolute gem of a dish! This was the birth of Maggie’s Exotic range of sauces, spices, food, and more…
