On the day:
The foraging trip starts at The Visitor Centre in Beddgelert at 10:30am, where Cynan will welcome you and give a short talk about the fungal kingdom. He'll also share a field identification information sheet with you before the walk begins.
The route follows the Glaslyn River and crosses meadows towards the famous Gelert’s Grave. These fields offer an opportunity to seek grassland fungi. You'll then take a detour into a mature beech and pine coppice where you'll look for woodland species, following the Glaslyn river towards the Nantmor river. The riverside provides a different habitat with its birch and oak trees and is usually an excellent source of edible mushrooms.
During the walk Cynan will share his knowledge and experience and will educate you about edible and poisonous mushrooms, fungi, medicinal and hallucinogenic mushrooms plus some fungi that have unexpected properties such as metal implement sharpeners and tinder!
Once we get to the Mushroom Garden you will see how the mushrooms are cultivated and processed into unique seasonings. You'll also get the chance to sample and purchase some lovely Mushroom Garden products to take home.
The experience lasts about 4 hours, so bringing a snack and drinks is recommended. It is also recommended that you bring walking boots and appropriate clothing for the variable weather conditions that we often experience in Wales.
Location:
Beddgelert, North Wales.

“In the beautiful Snowdonian mountains of North Wales, Cynan and his wife June founded ‘Yr Ardd Fadarch’, which means ‘The Mushroom Garden’ in Welsh. Cynan and June’s love for foraging was the inspiration for their venture into mushroom growing. Their Umami seasoning is a particular favourite of ours with its ability to enhance the flavour of almost any dish – try it for yourself!”
We are a small family run business that specialises in growing mushrooms and cultivating exotic species right here in the heart of the Snowdonia mountains. The result? The production of some really exciting and innovative mushroom products. Our versatile seasonings can liven up an array of dishes, they really must feature in any foodie’s feast.
